The Parkinson False-Accusation Case: The Record

Research checked September 18, 2026. No interviews or response requests have been conducted for this Record.

Scope: Historical reconstruction of the March 2014 accusation, related proceedings, and the later perjury case. The original police brief, complete bail file, full 2019 sentencing remarks, and White's full sentencing reasons have not been reviewed.

What the documents establish

The principal judicial source is Parkinson v Alexander [2017] ACTSC 201, an appeal from Parkinson's convictions. It is not a judgment determining whether every original police action was unlawful. It recounts evidence from the proceedings before it, resolves specified appeal issues, and records different outcomes on different counts.

Its account of March 21 and March 26 establishes the sequence on which the article focuses: initial physical-assault accounts, sexual-assault charging, a police announcement, and a later explicit sexual allegation. The chronology warrants examination of the original charging decision. It does not itself establish deliberate coaching or a knowing conspiracy by investigators.

The later guilty plea is documented in the prosecution service's 2018/2019 report. White's separate perjury conviction and suspended sentence are documented in its 2021/2022 report. Those reports summarize the prosecution's perspective; they are not substitutes for the complete judgments.

Findings that need precise wording

The sexual-assault charge: The offense discussed in R1 involved bodily harm with intent to engage in sexual intercourse. That charge did not necessarily allege a completed rape. The headline refers to charging before Parkinson explicitly alleged rape.

The earlier accusation: Parkinson's acquittal on the earlier false-accusation count is material. It does not prove the underlying allegation true. It prevents describing every accusation as judicially established to be false.

The alibi: R1 records witnesses giving different time estimates. The evidence in that judgment is not a universally agreed, continuous alibi.

DNA: R1 records evidence consistent with Parkinson's DNA on a shirt and discusses domestic transfer. The packet profile excluded Jones as the unknown contributor. It did not identify White.

Injuries: R1's criticism of the evidentiary basis at the first trial is distinct from R2's later description. The later account is not a finding made by the appeal judge.

White: Perjury concerning condom use is established in the cited record. Participation in staging the scene is not established by that conviction. The separate unresolved count must remain separate.

State responsibility: The reviewed record supports questions about decisions and process. It does not establish that all officials knew the accusation was false, that the original arrest was judicially held unlawful, or that no institutional review occurred.

Read the Article: Charged Before She Alleged Rape

Sarah-Jane Parkinson's fabricated accusation put her former partner in prison. An appeal judgment reveals a troubling sequence: police charged him with sexual assault before her recorded accounts alleged a sexual attack. Years of proceedings exposed false testimony, defective prosecution, and questions about how the original case was built.
